Fashion Journal: Hakea x Studio Of The Sun

Wearable art.
There are some brands that are so aligned that collaborating isn’t a question of if, but when. This is true of Byron Bay-based sustainable swimwear brand, HAKEA, and art studio, Studio Of The Sun, who have joined forces for a collaborative swimwear collection, Sunseeker
The local partnership occurred naturally thanks to their shared values “centred around the positive energy of the sun and the value of slowing down and embracing the rhythms of life”. No stranger to collaborating with like-minded artists and creatives, HAKEA continues to blend practicality with a minimal, refined aesthetic in its latest offering.

The brand’s considered design ethos is ever present in its 18-piece capsule and longevity remained at the forefront of the design process. Each Sunseeker style is made in a limited run and is thoughtfully crafted in econyl, a high-quality recycled nylon fibre sourced from regenerated fishing nets, discarded ocean plastics and fabric mill scraps.
Part swimwear part work of artSunseeker takes the term ‘wearable art’ to new heights. The collection’s signature artwork was adapted from an original Studio Of The Sun print that was modified to capture the vibrant spirit of the collaboration.
“The whole process was really organic and effortless. I’ve followed Studio Of The Sun for a while and personally really love the pieces which always provides a good starting point for a collaboration” explains HAKEA founder Casey Eastwell.
It sees HAKEA’s signature silhouettes, including its best-selling Santiago Brief, decorated with hand-painted blooms in mood-boosting shades of yellow, rust, brown and green. It also includes new silhouettes, the Voyage Tri Top and the Beams Tie Bottom, which offer a new fit and level of comfortability.
